Nature's Water Filter:
|
|
We have been studying water and water issues, and decided that we’d like to do something to help others. We are partnering with an organization called Nature’s Water Filter to help the people in India to get more clean water. Most people who can’t afford water, can’t afford a water filter and can’t get clean water. A water filtration system costs about $30. By helping to raise some funds, we can help ensure that they have clean, safe drinking water.
What can you do to help us?
We are making bookmarks to raise money to help people in India. People can help by purchasing one (or several!) of our conservation bookmarks. All proceeds will go to the Nature's Water Filter organization to be used for water filtration systems. The money we raise will benefit the people in India and it will help them deal with their water crisis. You can also help by donating money directly to the organization. Here is a link to our gofundme project site:
We are also working on some recycling efforts as a part of this project. We get money for some recycled items, and those funds will go to our water filter project. As an added bonus, recycling also helps save water!
Recycling is beneficial because it saves water. For example, recycling one ton of newspaper saves 7,000 gallons of water. The water we save can be used for something else. Recycling also uses less energy, reduces trash, and it saves necessary resources such as trees and plastic.
What can we recycle at Spring Creek?
Here’s how to recycle those items:
Everyone can do their part to help take good care of our resources. Please think about how you can help too!
What can we recycle at Spring Creek?
- At Spring Creek, we can recycle applesauce/fruit pouches, granola bar wrappers, ink cartridges, cell phones, and soda cans. Not only are you keeping trash out of the landfill when you recycle, these are all items that help us raise funds too!
Here’s how to recycle those items:
- Applesauce/fruit pouches, and granola bar wrappers: make sure there is no food left in it, and then place it in the appropriate container in the lunchroom
- Soda cans: Place them in the container by the bike racks on the northwest corner of Spring Creek School.
- Ink Cartridges and Cell Phones: drop them off at the office or bring them to Mrs. Hayden’s classroom.
- Other school items that can be recycled include paper, cardboard and dead markers. Each classroom has a paper bin and also has a container for dead markers.
- Anything that can be recycled through the City of Laramie’s recycling program can also be recycled here. That includes paper, plastics, paperboard, cardboard, and cans. There are bins in the lunchroom, the teacher’s lounge, and in the hallway by the 3rd grade classrooms.
- Some items that CAN’T be recycled and should NOT go in recycling bins include items with food waste or grease on them, and any type of plastic bag, including garbage bags. However, some stores will recycle plastic bags for you, like Safeway.
Everyone can do their part to help take good care of our resources. Please think about how you can help too!
